Two days after suspected Boko Haram militants carried out suicide bombings in N’Djamena, capital of Chad, the group has “killed at least 30 people” in neighbouring Niger.
Security sources told Reuters on Thursday that the attack happened in about two villages in the Diffa region of the country.
“The attackers drove into the villages in the Gueskerou area with cars and motorbikes and shot residents before setting fire to the mostly straw thatched houses where others were hiding,” Reuters quoted one of the sources as saying.
“In all, at least 30 were killed. Some of them died when the houses were set alight.”

Gueskerou is along the banks of the Komadugu River separating Niger from Nigeria.
Both Chad and Niger have troops in the Multi-national joint taskforce (MTNJF) waging a battle against insurgency in sub-sahara Africa.
