117 B’Haram insurgents ‘fall to Chadian soldiers’

Azem Bermandoa, spokesman for the Chadian army, says his country’s security forces have killed 117 Boko Haram fighters in the last two weeks.

He said islands that the militants used as hideouts on Lake Chad were also cleared.

“We killed 117 Boko Haram fighters during the two-week operation. We lost two men and several wounded,” he said.

“We destroyed their boats and seized various weapons during the operation.”

Chad has deployed thousands of soldiers to tackle the militant group, whose six-year insurgency has killed thousands; and Boko Haram has also been targeting the country and neighbouring African countries that are part of the regional force battling insurgency.
