John Olatchy Momoh, Nigerian media mogul and chairman and CEO of the multi award-winning Channels Television, has joined the board of directors of the Constituency for Africa (CFA).
Channels TV is a leading private-sector media outlet on the African continent. Momoh and his wife, Mrs. Olusola T. Momoh, were CFA’s special guests during the 2014 Ronald H. Brown African Affairs Series, which concluded in Washington, D.C. on October 3.
The Constituency for Africa was founded in 1990 as a project of the relief and development agency, Africare. Its mission is to educate the public about Africa and African development issues, to build public and private sector support for Africa and the Diaspora, and to help shape a more positive United States policy on Africa. CFA became an independent organisation in April 1994.
Since its inception, its’s stellar advocacy efforts include shaping US trade policy towards Africa and the successful passage of the African Growth and Opportunity Act.

In 2013 CFA partnered with USAID and Western Union to implement the African Diaspora Marketplace competition. It pioneered efforts that led to President George W. Bush’s landmark legislation to address the HIV/AIDS pandemic, as well as the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief. It also provided the ideas for Barack Obama’s August U.S.-Africa Leaders Summit and the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI).
CFA is credited with establishing the groundbreaking Ronald H. Brown African Affairs Series, a marquee series of strategic meetings, forums and other stakeholder events that coincide and overlap with the annual Congressional Black Caucus Legislative Week and the United Nations General Assembly. The Ron Brown Series has become a critical component towards galvanizing thinking on a range of US-Africa policy options.
Melvin Foot, president of CFA, expressed pleasure with Momoh’s decision to accept a place on the CFA Board of Directors.

“CFA is nearing its 25th year of service to Africa and the African Diaspora and it is now time for us to retool our Board of Directors to better reflect the realities of US-Africa partnerships,” he said.
“The CFA board, going forward, will reflect dynamic people both in the United States and in Africa. John Momoh is a pioneer and one of the most respected entrepreneurs in the media industry in Africa. Highly global in his thinking, he brings focused wisdom of the immense potential of the Diaspora to CFA. We at CFA are very fortunate to have him on our Board!”
