There was panic in Akure, Ondo state, on Sunday as supporters of Rotimi Akeredolu, governor of the state, and Eyitayo Jegede, governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), clashed.
The two groups — the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the PDP — unleashed violence on each other at Oba Adeshida road.
Vehicular movement was halted during the clash which lasted for several minutes.
The incident was said to be a reprisal attack over the alleged killing of an APC member in Oba Nla area of the town on Saturday night.

According to a witness, many people were injured in the clash and vehicles belonging to both parties were vandalised.
There have been episodes of violence in the state as the governorship election scheduled for October 10 approaches.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had said it identified 270 flashpoints across the polling units in the state.
