Chaos on Lagos-Ibadan expressway as police officer ‘shoots okada rider’

There was chaos along the Opic axis of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Friday afternoon after a police officer allegedly shot at a motorcyclist. 

Eons Intelligence, a Twitter account that publishes security reports, said the police officer is attached to a construction company in the area.

It is understood that the incident has triggered unrest in the area.

In an advisory, Eons Intelligence advised residents to avoid the area until the situation is addressed.

The advisory said hoodlums as well as other motorcyclists protesting the shooting of their colleagues have taken over the area.

The hoodlums were said to have chased construction workers from the site while also trying to block the road.

“Available report indicates an Okada rider was allegedly shot by a policeman attached to a construction company operating in the area,” the advisory reads.

“The riders and hoodlums have taken over the situation, construction workers chased out as work stopped and are about to block the road,” the advisory reads.

“Individuals are advised that travelling through that area outbound and inbound of Lagos should be avoided until calm is restored.”

When contacted, Oyeyemi Abimbola, the Ogun state police spokesperson, said he has not received a proper briefing on the incident.

“I have not been properly briefed about that incident. Let me make my findings first,” he told TheCable.
