Wenger floored by Mourinho yet again

Goals from Eden Hazard and Diego Costa earned Premier League leaders Chelsea FC a 2-0 victory over Arsenal in a London derby remarkable mainly for a spat between rival managers Jose Mourinho and Arsene Wenger.

Wenger shoved Mourinho as their long-running feud turned physical in a win that saw the Blues take a five-point lead at the top of the Barclays Premier League.

Wenger refused to take a backwards step in the 20th minute after leaving his technical area following Gary Cahill’s tackle from behind on Alexis Sanchez.

Chelsea were not at their best but for all Arsenal’s possession, they rarely looked like replying once Hazard had earned and converted a 27th minute spot kick.

With the visitors pushing forward, the otherwise quiet Costa sealed the points after 78 minutes after running on to former Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas’s pinpoint long pass to dink home his ninth league goal in seven matches.

The win moved Chelsea five points clear at the top with 19 points and extended Mourinho’s hold over Wenger, having been unbeaten against the Frenchman in 12 meetings.

At Old Trafford, Manchester United claimed another win after beating Everton in a hard-fought 2-1 victory.

The Red Devils tasted victory last weekend with a 2-1 win over West Ham, and Sunday’s game was equally nervy, as Roberto Martinez’s Toffees ran the host all the way to the final whistle.

United took the lead in the first half when Juan Mata laid the ball back to Angel Di Maria, who swept the ball past Tim Howard from the edge of the box to score his third goal since joining from Real Madrid.

But Everton wouldn’t lie down, and missed a penalty when Luke Shaw tripped Tony Hibbert inside the box, with Leighton Baines failing to beat David De Gea in the United goal from 12 yards.

Baines did have a hand in the equaliser, though, crossing the ball to the back post, where Steven Naismith nodded past de Gea to draw Everton level.

However, United claimed all three points when Radamel Falcao grabbed his first goal in a Manchester United shirt, turning home Di Maria’s goal-bound shot from just inside the box.

United needed three world-class saves from De Gea in the final minutes to stay in front, with the Spanish international keeping a number of Everton players at bay to hand United all three points.

A first-half goal from Christian Eriksen secured Tottenham a deserved 1-0 victory over Southampton at White Hart Lane.

Jan Vertonghen almost gave the hosts an early lead in the fourth minute when his header had to be cleared off the line by Ryan Bertrand, while both Erik Lamela and Eriksen tested Southampton keeper Fraser Forster with good attempts from range in the first half.

Spurs eventually took a deserved lead on 40 minutes when Nacer Chadli drifted in off the left flank to lay the ball into the path of Eriksen. The Danish midfielder hit it first time from the edge of the box and it arrowed into the near post corner, giving Forster little chance of keeping it out.
