Chelsea crush Middlesbrough 6-1 to reach Carabao Cup final

Chelsea scored four goals in the first half to defeat Middlesbrough 6-1 in their Carabao Cup semi-final second leg tie in Stamford Bridge on Tuesday.

The Blues obliterated their opponent — who entered the encounter with a slim 1-0 advantage from the first leg — to win the tie 7-2 on aggregate.

Jonathan Howson scored an own goal on 15 minutes to open the floodgates for Mauricio Pochettino’s men, with Enzo Fernandez, Axel Disasi, Cole Palmer (brace) and Noni Madueke all scoring to punish the visitors.

Morgan Rogers netted a consolation goal for Michael Carrick’s side in the dying minutes to cheer the travelling fans.

Chelsea’s victory extends their unbeaten home record against Middlesbrough to 22 matches, spanning almost 49 years.

The London side is set to take part in their 10th Carabao Cup final appearance.

Chelsea lost in the last two Carabao Cup finals they featured, with both defeats coming via penalty shootout.

Chelsea could face Liverpool or Fulham at Wembley.
