Chelsea dominate as UEFA names Champions League squad of the season

Reigning champions Chelsea have dominated the UEFA Champions League (UCL) squad of the season.

The 23-man list selected by UEFA’s technical observers was unveiled on Monday.

Chelsea has the highest representation with seven players while Manchester City, beaten finalists, are second with five players.

N’Golo Kanté led the way for the newly crowned UCL winners alongside Edouard Mendy, César Azpilicueta, Antonio Rüdiger, Ben Chilwell, Jorginho, and Mason Mount.

Meanwhile, Cristiano Ronaldo was missing for the first time in over a decade while Lionel Messi made the list.

Both Ronaldo and Messi exited the UCL in the round of 16 with Juventus and Barcelona respectively.

Three Real Madrid players featured on the list while Barcelona was only represented by Messi, their record goalscorer.
