Chelsea sign Falcao on loan

Chelsea have announced a season-long loan deal for Monaco striker Radamel Falcao.

The Colombian forward spent last season on loan at Manchester United but Louis van Gaal turned down the chance to sign the 28-year-old on a permanent deal after he scored just four goals in 29 appearances.

The former Atletico Madrid striker will link-up with former team-mates Thibaut Courtois, Filipe Luis and Diego Costa at Stamford Bridge and he says he’s delighted with the move.

“I am very happy to be joining Chelsea and can’t wait to start training and help with our aim of retaining the league title and being successful in Europe,” he said.

The striker scored 72 goals in two seasons for Porto between 2009 and 2011, before joining Atletico Madrid.

In 2013, he joined Monaco after 70 goals in two prolific seasons with the Spanish side.

He suffered anterior cruciate ligament damage in January 2014 and moved to Old Trafford on loan that summer but had a disappointing time at the club.
