Chelsea have announced the signing of Malang Sarr from the French Ligue One on a free transfer.

The London-based club announced the capture of the 21-year-old player on their website on Thursday.

The French youngster of Senegalese descent has been a free agent since July after his contract at Nice had expired, but has now signed a five-year deal at Stamford Bridge.

He will however be sent out on loan to “gain valuable game time” and “experience’, according to Chelsea.

Marina Granovskaia, Chelsea director, expressed the club’s excitement at signing the player she describes as “tremendous prospect”.

“The opportunity to sign Malang was one we could not miss,” she said.

“He is a tremendous prospect and we will be monitoring him closely during his loan period, hoping he will soon be back at Chelsea. We are very happy to welcome him to the club today.”

Sarr follows Ben Chilwell to Stamford Bridge, and joined the likes of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, who have already signed from Ajax and RB Leipzig, respectively.
