Chido Onumah, coordinator, African Centre for Media and Information Literacy (AFRICMIL), will deliver the keynote address at a media and information literacy symposium (MIL) being organised by the University of Ghana, Accra.
The symposium is being held in partnership with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
In the letter of invitation, Audrey Gadzekpo, dean of the school, said the institution would be delighted to hear his “rich practical as well as theoretical perspectives on MIL”.
Gadzekpo said the purpose of the symposium is to provide platform to discuss issues such as what needs to be done to build a media and information literate society.

He said building a coalition around media and information literacy and also mainstreaming media and information literacy into educational curricula across all levels.
“The workshop is also aimed at addressing gaps in training of media, information and communication professionals as well as stimulating scholarly interest on media and information literacy issues,” he said.
The dean said the symposium, which will hold on August 31, will feature key stakeholders “interested in spearheading media and information literacy efforts across various sectors in Ghana.”
