Children with disabilities need opportunity to realise their full potential, says LASODA

The Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) says it is important to ensure that every child, irrespective of their disability, is allowed to realise their full potential.

Speaking at the ICCF summer camp on Monday, Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, the general manager of LASODA, urged society to continuously advocate for disability inclusion and show empathy towards people with disabilities (PwDs).

The summer camp, organised by the Iya Ni Wura Foundation for children with intellectual disabilities, was held in Lagos. It was aimed at inspiring children to excel in their different endeavours.

The GM, who was represented by Folusho Adeolu, the director of monitoring, orientation and evaluation, emphasized the important role inclusivity plays in the personal development of PwDs.

“Inclusivity has a profound impact on social justice. It challenges stereotypes and prejudices, fostering a more compassionate and empathetic society,” she said.

“Prioritising inclusivity sends a powerful message that every individual is valued and their contributions matters. This builds a culture of mutual respect where everyone feels empowered to pursue their aspirations.”

Oyetunde-Lawal said LASODA is committed to advocating for the rights of PwDs, promoting public awareness about various disabilities, reducing stigma, and fostering a more inclusive society.
