Chinese league debt crisis: I’ve been paid all my money, says Ighalo

Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo has said he’s not being owed by his club, Changchun Yatai.

Ighalo made the submission to TheCable in reaction to reports that some Chinese clubs are struggling to pay salaries and are at warpath with the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for defaulting on bonuses, transfer fees and tax.

The alleged debtor clubs were said to be Beijing Guoan, Beijing Renhe, Shanghai Shenhua, Shanghai SIPG, Guangzhou Evergrande, Guangzhou R&F, Jiangsu Suning, Changchun Yatai, Chongqing Lifan, Hebei China Fortune, Tianjin Quanjian, Tianjin Teda, Liaoning Whowin, Shandong Luneng, Dalian Transcendence, Shanghai Shenxin, Shijiazhuang Ever Bright and Qingdao Jonoon.

The clubs were said to have been given until August 15 to put their financial affairs in order.

But Ighalo says he’s had no such issues at Yatai.

“Really, I don’t know anything about that,” he told TheCable, emphasising that, “My club has paid me all my money till date.

“The only money they are owing me is this month which is not even over because today is 29th of July so I know before the 1st I will get my salary. So, I don’t know where that news is coming from.”

Ighalo, captain of Changchun Yatai, added that: “You never can rule out the fact that there are people who don’t like the progress the Chinese League is making.”

The affected clubs, according to the reports, will be disqualified from all tournaments hosted by the AFC.
