Frank Geng-Quangrong, a Chinese man accused of killing Ummukulsum Sani, his Nigerian girlfriend, has closed his defence before a Kano high court.

Geng-Quangrong, 47, was arrested by the police in September 2022 for stabbing the 22-year-old to death at her residence in Janbulo quarters, Kumbotso LGA of Kano.

He is standing trial on charges bordering on culpable homicide. The offence, the state said, contravenes the provisions of section 221(b) of the penal code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

At the court session on Thursday, Muhammad Dan’azumi, defence counsel, told the court that Abdullahi Abubakar, a urologist, was the last witness in the trial.

He then prayed for the court to fix a date for the adoption of the final written address.

Earlier, under cross-examination by Aisha Mahmoud, prosecution counsel, the defendant told the court that he unintentionally stabbed Ummukulsum.

“Ummukulsum attacked me with a knife. While I was defending myself, she bit me on my arm and finger and also injured me in my groin area,” Frank said.

Sanusi Ado-Ma’aji, the presiding judge, adjourned the matter until May 31, for the adoption of the final written address.
