I choose you again and again…

Yesterday was especially fascinating.

Messages of ‘Happy Democracy Day’ filled the air. Emails, text messages and even phone calls were laced with the same.

With many simply glad to be spending an extra day away from work on a Monday, I can bet that slogan had no real meaning otherwise.

Nigeria is clearly struggling with a high-impact socioeconomic and political disequilibrium and something needs to contribute to the aspiration of renaissance and turnaround in the heads and hearts of most of its citizens.

Democracy? What does that even mean these days?

What we really need is a critical mass of people with the belief of a new Nigeria where everyone takes responsibility for himself or herself. No huge expectations, just responsibility.

Behavioural transformation is the singular most effective form of change. Except there’s a significant shift in values and beliefs, this cannot happen. The slogan ‘I must be the change I want to see in the world’ must begin to take commonplace.

As an Identity coach, I believe fiercely in authenticity and originality.

This simply means we need to choose to allow difference and then understand also that even though we are individually different, we are all part of a whole.

We are a people called by the name ‘Nigeria’ for this very reason.

On a deeper level, I look forward even more to how this choice can drive each individual to a commitment to impact society. It is regard, it is respect for one another, and it is making every opportunity to deliver value to each other count, one person at a time, one day at a time.

This is what Nigeria needs.

I choose to commit to the process of believing and being that change I want to realize. I see a more conscious and deliberate people, Youths focusing more on value, positive influence and global impact.

It’s the last YouNow article in the month of May.

What could be a more apt conclusion?

MAY…we choose Nigeria , again and again.
