The Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) has requested the support of the National Judicial Institute (NJI) for the proposed amendment of the CIBN Act of 2007.
Bayo Olugbemi, CIBN president, made the call when he paid a visit to Salisu Garba, newly appointed administrator of the National Judicial Institute (NJI) in Abuja.
Olugbemi said the support of the NJI for the proposed amendment would enhance the power of the disciplinary tribunal to discipline erring bankers, among others.
He said that the essence of the visit was to discuss how the CIBN can deepen the existing collaboration by sustaining the National Seminar on Banking & Allied Matters for Judges, which has recorded enormous benefits.

This, he said, is to create joint knowledge events to educate judicial officers on developments and trending issues in the banking sector.
He expressed the CIBN’s readiness to collaborate and generate research projects with the NJI on topical and relevant issues in the banking and finance industry.
While welcoming the CIBN team, Garba expressed his appreciation for the CIBN leadership and commended the institute as a long-standing relationship partner.

He noted that their collaborations and workshops started in 2001.
Garba assured the CIBN that NJI would not relent in its capacity building for judicial officers in line with the existing relationship and the mandate under enabling laws.
He added that the yearly collaborative workshops organised by the CIBN and the NJI helped in ensuring the effective administration of justice in Nigeria.
