Edwin Clark, the convener of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), has commended Sheriff Oborevwori, governor of Delta, over his achievements in the state.

Clark said Oborevwori has achieved so much within a short time as governor, adding that he has outperformed his predecessors.

Oborevwori became the governor of Delta state on May 29, 2023.

In a statement on Friday, the elder statesman said allegations by Ned Nwoko, senator representing Delta north, that the governor is ineffective are unfounded.

“I challenge anyone to claim otherwise, to show/prove any governor of Delta state who has achieved so much within such a short period as Sheriff Oborevwori has since he assumed office as the governor of Delta state,” the statement reads.

“Warri is fast becoming one of the commercial nerve centres in Nigeria, with Julius Berger Construction Company undertaking most of the critical jobs.

“Time was when major companies such as Julius Berger, Saipem, and other oil companies left the city because there was nothing for them to do. But since 29th May 2023, the famous Warri township is fast becoming a sight to behold, turning to its old self.

“Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has done wonders in development, enhancing democracy in Delta state. He is giving Warri a facelift. The wonder company, Julius Berger is performing wonders, with a contract to build three flyovers, cloverleaf, pedestrian bridges, and ancillary road expansion beginning from the DSC Roundabout, valued at a cost of 78 billion naira awarded to them and a good percentage payment made.”

Clark criticised Ifeanyi Okowa, former governor of Delta, alleging that his government refused to extend infrastructure development to Warri.

“The previous government abandoned Warri, whilst spending a good chunk of the state revenue in the Delta north area, to the extent of tarring roads into unused bushes for future use, neglecting highly densely populated commercial areas,” he said.

“Everybody knows that I am not a praise singer. I say things the way they are. The Sheriff Oborevwori government has been able to pay off a debt of over N300 billion incurred by the previous government.

“I am, therefore, surprised and shocked to read and hear the complaints of distinguished senator Ned Nwoko that Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is doing nothing. This is not correct. I challenge Sen. Nwoko to fault my assertion on these developments.

“I can only say that rather than sharing the state’s resources as political patronage, the governor is using it to impact the people positively.”
