Fuad Adeyemi, the chief imam of the Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society of Nigeria (AIS), says Muslims should foster unity and cooperation to drive institutional growth and development in the country.
Adeyem spoke in Abuja during a special prayer session to mark the society’s 22nd anniversary.
Adeyemi said the journey of the Al-Habibiyyah central mosque and complex in the Guzape district of Abuja is a testament to the potential of collective effort and individual contributions.
He noted that over N1.8 billion has been invested in the mosque project.

“One of the remarkable aspects of this development was the wide array of individuals, including former governors and other public figures, who contributed to the mosque’s growth,” Adeyemi said.
“Even a Christian lady volunteered millions of naira for critical aspects of the project.
“An individual encouraged us to come here, and when we were reluctant, he erected a tent and bought kettles, mats, and other forms of encouragement.

“There are individuals who remain anonymous that donated money or volunteered to execute some of the aspects of the mosque, including the dome, pillars, doors, and public address system, among others.”
Ridwan Mustapha, the society’s pioneer president, described the successful completion of the mosque as “divine”.
“The project costs were beyond our ability, but with Allah’s help and community support, the mosque became a symbol of perseverance and faith,” Mustapha said.
Mustapha recalled the challenges faced at the outset, including rejection, but noted that the society remained steadfast in its mission to spread Islam across Abuja and beyond.

“Our growth is a testimony to the power of faith, and today we stand here in gratitude for all that Allah has granted us,” he added.
He urged Muslims to embrace opportunities for good deeds, emphasising that acts of charity and support bring rewards both in this life and the hereafter.
“The development of the Al-Habibiyyah mosque is a prime example of how collective action can leave a lasting impact on the community,” Mustapha added.
