The complexities of climate change and its associated jargon can make it difficult to digest. TheCable’s climate quick facts will help to demystify these climate concepts through easy-to-understand and straight-to-the-point explanations.

Here are some to keep at the tip of your fingers:

  • The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) says deforestation and forest degradation account for 10 to 11 percent of global greenhouse gas emissions.
  • The organisation added that global food loss and waste generate about eight percent of humankind’s annual greenhouse gas emissions.
  • In a single square mile, mangroves hold as much carbon as the annual emissions of 90,000 cars, Conservation International said.
  • The Conservation International said if the mangroves are destroyed and all that carbon is released into the atmosphere, it will contribute to climate change.
  • In 2020, more than 830 cities in 72 countries had adopted renewable energy targets, according to the United Nations.
