From 705,000 in mid-April, the number of applicants competing for the 10,000 places recently declared open by the Nigeria police force is now closing in on 1million.
According to the police service commission (PSC), 843,008 applications had been received as of 1pm on Monday,
Ikechukwu Ani, head of press and public relations of the commission, said 243,327 applications were received for the post of assistant superintendent of police (ASP), while 197,990 and 401,691 applicants applied for the inspector and police constable (PC) cadres respectively.
The commission recently said it would recruit 500 cadet ASP, 500 cadet inspectors, 1,500 specialist officers and 7,500 constables in the recruitment of 10,000 policemen.

President Muhammadu Buhari approved the recruitment at the 2015 national security summit, saying it would help to reinforce the police for better service.
The application exercise is scheduled to close on May 13
