COD appoints Aluko as ambassador

Lagos based club, COD United has announced that Super Eagles and Hull City forward, Sone Aluko has been appointed as the club’s ambassador.

The club announced on Thursday through their official website that Aluko would help them in their quest to develop their players to the fullness of their potential on and off the pitch.

Speaking on the appointment, Shola Opaleye, chief executive of the club, said appointing Aluko was an easy decision.

“We have been looking out for high profile, top level professional footballers who are also known for good conduct and disciplined behavior to work with us as we try to bring through well behaved but very good players and Sone is a natural fit,” he said.

“Sone conducts himself in a very professional manner even after tasting considerable success as a footballer and that speaks very eloquently of the man he truly is.”

Sola Aiyepeku, executive director of the club, Sola also revealed his pleasure that Sone has agreed to become an ambassador of the club.

“He fits the model of players who we want to bring through our academy; good footballers on the pitch and good men off it. We want to develop the whole man and we are pleased he has agreed to be our ambassador. I am very excited about the opportunities that this presents the young men who we are working with and would work with in our academy in the future.”

On his part, Aluko expressed his delight at a chance to work with C.O.D United.

“It is a great privilege for me to be appointed as an ambassador of C.O.D United FC and their academy. To start a partnership with a club of such strong ethical values and a growing reputation nationally and internationally is something I’m very honoured to be a part of,” he said.

Aluko, 25 has played over 150 games in English and Scottish leagues scoring 31 times. He has been capped at U16, U17, U18 and U19 levels for England.

He was also capped at U20 for Nigeria before being promoted to the Super Eagles. He scored his first goals for the team last month in the AFCON qualifier against South Africa at the Akwa Ibom Stadium, Uyo.
