Colo, US’ oldest gorilla, dies at 60

Colo, the oldest gorilla in US,  has died at age 60.

Born on December 22, 1956 at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, Colo is thought to be the nation’s oldest living gorilla.

Colo celebrated her 60th birthday in December.

Describing how everyone liked her, Columbus Zoo president and CEO, said: “Today is a sad day for us, the staff, the retirees, are constantly calling in and talking about what Colo means to this community and to us.

“She’s an icon for Columbus and Columbus zoo, she’s a fantastic ambassador.”

She has lived at the Columbus Zoo longer than any other animal and has exceeded her normal life expectancy by more than two decades.

Her name, Colo, is short for her birth city of Columbus.
