Commandant of Peace Corps accused of fraud

The Good Governance Agenda, a civil society group, has written a petition to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), accusing Dickson Akoh, national commandant of Peace Corps of fraud.

The group said in October, Ambore Enoch, commandant of the corps in Gombe state, was arrested for alleged fraud.

The group asked the agency to get to the root of the matter and ensure justice is done.

“Ambore Enoch, Gombe state commandant of the corps, was arrested last month for extorting money from desperate applicants for non-existent jobs,” the petition read.

“The amount involved was put at N54 million naira in the figures reported in the news. The actual amount involved is higher because there were several applicants that made cash payments to Enoch and persons with his mandate to receive such payments.

“The Good Governance Agenda is making this petition to your Commission in the belief that it will help strengthen the case against the indicted officials of Peace Corps of Nigeria in line with enabling act that empowers the EFCC to investigate petitions; and also help those that have been swindled to recover the money they lost in the scam.

“As already established by the diligent investigating carried out by professionals in the Commission, N18.7million of the amount taken from applicants was transferred to Peace Corps’ Headquarters in Abuja. It is therefore our firm belief that Amb. (Dr) Dickson A. O. Akoh has questions to answer in this regards. We have been in touch with our colleagues in other states and the same pattern of fraud was repeated.

“It is on this note that we appeal to you to deploy your good office to arrest Amb. (Dr) Dickson A. O. Akoh as the National Commandant of Peace Corps in Nigeria for his role in swindling Nigerians with an employment racket into an organization that is presently unknown to law.”
