The Kebbi government says 211,699 persons across 3,308 communities in the 21 LGAs of the state will benefit from the federal government’s renewed hope cash transfer (RHCT) programme.

Muhammad Hamidu-Jarkuka, the Kebbi commissioner for humanitarian affairs, spoke on Friday at a one-day refresher training for local government cash transfer facilitators in Birnin Kebbi, the state capital.

In October 2023, President Bola Tinubu  launched the renewed hope conditional cash transfer to 15 million households.

The president said the programme is an immediate intervention to cushion the effects of the removal of the petrol subsidy and other economic shocks.

Hamidu-Jarkuka said the state’s cash transfer unit would soon begin the enrollment process for the programme.

“The enrollment targets 160,708 beneficiaries from the national social register (NSR) and an additional 51,258 beneficiaries from the rapid response register (RRR),” NAN quoted him as saying.

“The enrollment will be actively ongoing in all the 21 local government areas and 71 wards in 3,308 communities across the state.”

He said each beneficiary would receive N25,000 per circle for three payment circles, which amounts to support N75,000 financial support.

“The financial assistance is to make a significant impact on the lives of the beneficiaries, contribute to their well-being and resilience due to the hardship caused by the current economic reforms in the country,” he said.

Also speaking, Muhammad Nura-Adamu, the national enrollment officer, national cash transfer office, said the training was to ensure that the facilitators rightly capture the biodata of the registered persons.
