Okey Kanu, commissioner for information and culture in Abia, says the government is making “serious investments” to improve power supply in the state.
Kanu spoke on Monday while addressing journalists on the outcome of the state executive council meeting held at the government house in Umuahia.
He said power plays a crucial role in changing the economy of the state, adding that government intends to distribute transformers to selected areas.
He said the government is determined to achieve its Light Up Abia initiative which has already been implemented in three communities of Umuahia, Aba and Ohafia.

“The government is determined to ensure that we get the power sector right, because power is a serious enabler for business,” NAN quoted Kanu as saying.
“Government is making some serious investments in that regard.
“Sometimes, early in the year, government is planning to distribute transformers, particularly to areas that need transformers most.

“Government is taking very serious steps to get the power infrastructure and situation right.”
The commissioner said the government has implemented the zero pothole initiative to rid the state of bad roads.
He said the government would follow due process in executing the road projects, adding that those affected during the project execution would be compensated.
