Nigeria’s male table tennis players started their campaign at the XXI Commonwealth Games in Australia on a good note.
The Nigerian players in Group 4 defeated Malaysia and Belize in their opening matches.
Olajide Omotayo beat Malaysia’s Chee Feng 13-11, 15-13, 11-7 to emerge winner of the three sets game.
It was his second match of the day, having earlier defeated Belize’s Rohit Pagarani 11-4, 11-2, 11-2 in his first game.

Bode Abiodun outshined Devesh Hukmani from Belize in three sets; 11-5, 11-3, 11-2. He also defeated Malaysia’s Mohammed Rizal 11-5,11-7,13-11.
In the men’s doubles, Azeez Jamiu and Olajide Omotayo, who had earlier defeated the Belize duo of Terry Su and Devesh Hukmani, lost 11-4, 11-9, 11-7 to Javen Choong and Chee Feng Leong from Malaysia.
Jamiu bounced back from the team’s doubles defeat to pip Malaysia’s Mohammed Rizal 3-2 in a five-set game.

Abiodun will face Choong and Su later on Thursday while Jamiu will take on Pagarani.
