Commonwealth Games: Nigerian teams in winning start

Nigeria’s table tennis teams on Thursday began their campaign in the team event on a winning note, both the men’s and women’s team recording victories over their opponents.

The women began their quest for medal with the trio of Edem Offiong, Ganiat and Rashidat Ogundele overcoming their Kenyan counterparts in a one-sided 3-0 encounter.

Also, the men’s team, led by veteran Segun Toriola and also boasting current African champion, Aruna Quadri, as well as Ojo Onaolapo, defeated Bangladesh 3-0 in their first Group D match.

Meanwhile, the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) has placed the Nigerian male team as the fourth seed in the team event.

Defending champions Singapore are rated number one, while England are second, with India occupying the third spot on the rating.
