Commonwealth Games: Agboro comes close but misses out on weightlifting medal

Two Nigerian weightlifters on Thursday missed their chances of clinching medals at the ongoing Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.

Monica Uweh, who represented Nigeria in the women’s 48kg category, finished fifth.

Chanu Saikhom Mirabai of India won the gold medal, Marie Hanitra Roilya Ranaivosoa of Mauritius got silver and Sri Lanka’s Dinusha Gomes claimed bronze.

Similarly, Favour Agboro who represented Nigeria in the 62kg men’s category also finished fifth out of 14 contestants.

Muhammad Aznil Bidin of Malaysia won the gold medal with a lift of 288kg.

Morea Baru of Papua New Guinea claimed silver with a lift of 286kg while the bronze medal was won by Talha Talib of Pakistan who lifted 283kg.
