I am in complete remission, says Carl Ikeme

After undergoing chemotherapy, Carl Ikeme, Super Eagles goalkeeper who has been battling leukaemia, says he is getting better.

In a tweet on Saturday, the 32-year-old goalkeeper said although there are still hurdles to overcome, he is hopeful.

“After a year of intense chemotherapy I would like to share that I am in complete remission,” he tweeted.

Complete remission is when tests and physical examinations show that all signs of cancer are gone and there is no more evidence of the disease.

He said: “I still have hurdles to pass to be cured, but hopefully I can move on with some normality! I would like to thank everyone for there support over the past year. Thank you.”

Responding, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) said it is great news to have Ikeme back.

“We are with you through and through and God will see this healing through,” the NFF tweeted.

At the ongoing World Cup, the Super Eagles defeated Iceland 2-0 on Friday after losing by the same margin to Croatia.

The team will take on Argentina on Tuesday for its last match in the group stage.
