CORAN: Petrol production by Dangote refinery has put Nigeria on path of self-sufficiency

The Crude Oil Refinery-owners Association of Nigeria (CORAN) says the commencement of petrol production by Dangote Petroleum Refinery has put the country on the path of self-sufficiency.

In a statement on Thursday, Momoh Oyarekhua, chairman of the association, congratulated Aliko Dangote, chairman of Dangote Group, and his team at the refinery for commencing the production of petrol.

“The refinery’s commencement has put the country on the path of self-sufficiency in petroleum products refining and development of associated industries,” Oyarekhua said.

Oyarekhua said the significant milestone not only highlights the company’s dedication and hard work but is also a reflection of CORAN’s collective resolve to contribute meaningfully to the economic development and well-being of Nigeria.

“By setting new standards of excellence in the industry, Dangote refinery has not only showcased what is possible when vision, innovation and commitment align, but has also reinforced Nigeria’s position on the global energy stage,” he said.

“This landmark event, accomplished by one of CORAN’s distinguished members, showcases the transformative power of private sector-led initiatives in reshaping the nation’s energy landscape.

“This is a proud moment for CORAN and for Nigeria as a whole. The achievement aligns perfectly with CORAN’s vision of creating sustainable refining solutions that drives economic growth and our mission to efficiently increase the refining capacity of the country.

“It is members like Dangote refinery who bring our goals to life.”

He said the group remains committed to supporting its members in enhancing the refining capacity of the country, reducing dependency on imported petroleum products and contributing significantly to the Nigerian economy.

Oyarekhua expressed confidence that the ground-breaking achievement would inspire other members and stakeholders to keep expanding the possibilities within the industry.

“We look forward to witnessing the continued success of Dangote refinery and the positive impact it will have on our industry and the broader economy,” he said.

On September 3, Aliko Dangote, chairman of Dangote Industries Limited, announced the commencement of petrol production at his refinery.

The 650,000 bpd capacity refinery began operations in January with the production of diesel and aviation fuel.

Dangote said the petrol from the plant can compete with products from other parts of the world in terms of quality.
