COREN: We’ll start remitting N15m to FG every month

The Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) says it intends to start remitting N15 million to the federation account every month.

Joseph Odigure, COREN registrar, said this when he appeared before the house of representatives committee on finance in Abuja on Tuesday.

He also said the council has paid about 86 percent of its outstanding remittances to the federal government.

Odigure said while the agency was owing remittances of N215 million from 2016 to 2017, it has paid N185 million, with N30 million left.

James Faleke, chairman of the committee, commended the agency which he said “has been doing well.”

He then asked the COREN registrar when the balance of N30 million would be paid and Odigure responded: “We are quite optimistic we will pay as quickly as possible. Every month, we have budgeted to be remitting N15 million to the federation account.”

The committee subsequently gave the agency two weeks to pay the outstanding debt.

“With  N30 million left, that is improvement. If everybody is paying like that, we will not be wasting our saliva,” Faleke said.

“When you came, you volunteered to pay, so there is no need for us to be hard on you. We give you two weeks to feed us back as to when you have capacity to pay. The law is clear that all revenue generated will be remitted to the federation account and you bring your budget.”

    1. Either Mr. James Faleke are just being petty or just malicious. Instead of them to focus on commending and getting more details on how the new registrar is managing the council and paying this huge amount of debt from the previous administration, they’ll rather threaten and vilify the honest ones. Where were they in 2017? What happened to their “hard on” , “two weeks” and clear law? They should be ashamed of themselves….
