Coronavirus: Italy records 919 deaths in one day as toll hits 9,000

Italy has recorded 919 deaths from the coronavirus, setting a fresh record of the highest casualty from the disease in a day.

According to Worldometres, which computes global statistics on the pandemic, the country also recorded fresh 5,909 cases.

This brings the total deaths in Italy to 9,134 out of the 86,498 cases recorded so far.

The United States remains the country with the highest number of cases with 94,425 after recording fresh 8,990 cases.

The current death toll in the US is 1,429 after another 134 persons died in the past 24 hours.

So far, 577,621 have been infected with the coronavirus globally, with 26,447 dead from the disease.

In Africa, there are 3,426 patients affected with 94 deaths as of Friday evening.

As of Thursday night, Nigeria’s cases were 65 across eight states and the federal capital territory (FCT), and with only one fatality.
