Cosmopolitan University in Abuja matriculated 212 students during its second matriculation ceremony on Saturday.
Carl Adams, the varsity’s vice-chancellor, announced that the university has integrated technological skills across all academic programmes.
He said the institution has prioritised practical skills training in areas including 3D printing, satellite technology, and AI applications.
Adams noted that Cosmopolitan University is conducting cutting-edge research in space technology and sickle cell disease solutions.

“We have developed a whole bunch of new technologies. We’ve got seven patents on the go, and we’re not even two years old yet,” he said.
“But what that means is that we’re bringing the best technologies, the best learning materials, the best facilities to support our students.
“So it is not borrowing other people’s technologies, it is developing the technologies here. We want Nigeria to be at the forefront of technology development and application development using those technologies. So technology on its own is just a paperweight.

“It is how you use it, and that is what we are embedding, those skills, how to use that technology. So whether that be 3D printing, designing innovative products.”
Ibrahim Katampe, the pro-chancellor, spoke about the expansion plans for the growing institution to include the development of a 100-hectare permanent site and partnerships with the University of Portsmouth.
Other plans include student exchange programmes to China and Europe.
Katampe said the university secured funding from the European Space Agency and other international organisations to support its research initiatives.

“We have gotten seed funding from the European Space Agency, which is based in the UK, and other seed funding to enable us to do what we are doing,” Katampe said.
He added that some of the students of the institution will be going outside the country to China and Europe for a short period for academic activities.
