Costa treble inspires Chelsea victory… Arsenal, City draw

Diego Costa’s hat-trick and a debut goal by Loic Remy ensured Chelsea maintained their 100 per cent record in the Barclays Premier League.

The current player-of-the-month added another three goals to his impressive goals tally to help the Blues seal all three points against Swansea.

Swansea took the lead in the 11th minute thanks to an own goal by Chelsea captain John Terry. However, Costa proved his class by scoring three goals past Lukas Fabianski.

In the early kick-off match, Martin Demichelis scored an 83rd-minute equaliser as champions Manchester City held Arsenal to a 2-2 draw at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal looked to have had victory in the bag after Alexis Sanchez volleyed home in the 74th minute, with Jack Wilshere’s goal cancelling out Sergio Aguero’s first-half opener for City.

But Argentina centre-back Demichelis headed in an Aleksandar Kolarov corner to prevent Manuel Pellegrini’s side losing two consecutive games after their shock 1-0 loss at home to Stoke City.

At the Stadium of Light, Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino was denied a first ever victory against Sunderland by Harry Kane’s own goal.

Pochettino, who lost two and drew two of his four visits at Sunderland with former club Southampton, looked set to leave with three points after Christian Eriksen had fired the visitors into a 48th-minute lead.

However, substitute Kane unwittingly turned Jordi Gomez’s 82nd-minute free-kick into his own net to hand the Black Cats a point on an afternoon when they were second-best for long periods.

Tottenham had taken the lead after just two minutes through Nacer Chadli, but found themselves back level almost immediately through Adam Johnson solo goal.

But Eriksen’s 48th-minute goal restored an advantage that looked to be decisive until Kane’s late misfortune.

Scott Arfield’s missed penalty denied Burnley their first Premier League win of the season in a frustrating 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace.

Eagles keeper Julian Speroni palmed Arfield’s late spot-kick to safety to deny Sean Dyche’s men their first win of the season.

Poor finishing from Palace left Neil Warnock’s side still seeking their first league win of the new term, too, with Scott Dann heading against the bar and Dwight Gayle fluffing two fine chances.

Newcastle United are still looking for their first league win of the season after suffering another heavy defeat at the hands of Southampton.

A first-half brace from Graziano Pelle put the Saints in front at the break, before Jack Cork and Morgan Schneiderlin rounded off an impressive display to make it 4-0 at St Mary’s.

At Stoke, Leonardo Ulloa gave Leicester City their first Premier League victory for 10 years.

The Foxes had made an encouraging start to life back in the top flight with draws against Everton and Arsenal, and record signing Ulloa’s third of the season in the 64th minute earned them a 1-0 win at the Britannia Stadium.

Elsewhere, Romelu Lukaku began to repay his £28million fee after helping Everton to a 2-0 victory at the Hawthorns.

The striker pounced after less than two minutes to score his first goal of the season following his permanent return from Chelsea in the summer.

Ben Foster added to the home team’s poor show in the second half, when he allowed Kevin Mirallas’ weak shot to go in.
