Salihu Dovo, council chairman of Ardo-kola local government area in Taraba state, have been shot dead.
Dovo and Timothy Aminu, his nephew, were shot dead in the early hours of Sunday.
Gunmen had broken into Dovo’s residence at the Sabon-Gari area of Jalingo, the state capital.
David Misal, police public relations officer (PPRO) in Taraba, who confirmed the incident, said the gunmen shot sporadically for over 30 minutes before whisking Dovo away.

He said local vigilantes and police trailed the gunmen, who shot the victim on noticing they could not escape with him.
According to him, the gunmen dumped his corpse in Nahuta village across the river Lamurde boundary between Ardo-Kola and Jalingo council areas.
Misal said Aminu was killed after attempting to create a blockade on the roads to prevent the abduction of Dovo.
