Hassan Muhammad, the director of Kano state Fire Service says a husband and his wife have died in a midnight inferno at Rangaza (Inken) Layin AU in the Ungogo LGA of the state.
In a statement on Friday, the director identified the victims as 67-year-old Muhammed Uba and Fatima Uba, 52.
Muhammad said the incident occurred at midnight on Thursday, December 12.
“We received a distress call at about 01:45 a.m. from one of our staff, Ahmad Abubakar, and immediately sent our rescue team to the scene at about 01:51 a.m.,” the statement reads.

Muhammad said the house affected was a bungalow of about 50 by 25 feet, adding that the two rooms in the house were completely razed by the fire.
He said that the victims were trapped by the smoke from the fire but were rescued unconscious with burns in some parts of their bodies.
The director said the bodies of the victims have been handed over to the ward head of the Rangaza community.

He added that the fire service has commenced an investigation into the cause of the fire.
Last month, the Kano state Fire Service said it rescued 27 persons and saved property worth N370 million from 54 fire incidents recorded between September and October.
