The Katsina police command says its operatives have foiled an attack by bandits on Hayan Dam village in Kankara LGA of the state.
In a statement on Wednesday, Aliyu Abubakar, police spokesperson in the state, said the bandits invaded the village wielding “dangerous weapons”.
Aliyu said the operatives engaged the bandits in a gun battle and rescued a couple in the process.
“On March 18, 2024, at about 2345 hrs, a report was received at the Kankara divisional headquarters that some suspected armed bandits, armed with dangerous weapons, attacked Hayan Dam village, Kankara LGA, and invaded the residence of one Kabir Magaji, m, age 35 years old, of the same address, in a bid to kidnap him alongside his wife, one Sa’adatu Magaji, f, age 20 years old,” the statement reads.

“Upon receipt of the report, the DPO Kankara promptly mobilized a team of operatives and responded to the scene, where they engaged the suspected bandits in a fierce gun duel.
“The team successfully thwarted the kidnapping attempt and rescued the couple unhurt. Efforts are been intensified to arrest fleeing suspects.”
The police spokesperson called on members of the public to report persons seen with bullet injuries.

He said the police commissioner in the state commended the operatives for their efforts and demonstration of courage, commitment and professionalism while discharging their duties.
