Court clears Gbajabiamila to contest speakership

Abdul Kafarati, a justice of a federal high court in Abuja, has refused to disqualify Femi Gbajabiamila from contesting the speakership of the federal house of representatives.

Gbajabiamila is the official candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the position.

A group known as the Registered Trustees of Social Justice and Civil Rights Awareness Initiative had filed a suit seeking the disqualification of the lawmaker from becoming the nation’s number four citizen on the grounds of integrity.

The group claimed that the Supreme Court of Georgia convicted Gbajabiamila for unethical practices in in February 2007 and that he was also barred from practising as a lawyer for three years.
