A federal high court in Kano has dismissed a preliminary report of the state’s Public Complaint and Anti-corruption Commission (PCACC), recommending suspension for Muhammad Sanusi, emir of Kano.
The emir was also awarded N200, 000 as general compensation for the breach of his human right.
The commission had, in June 2019, said it uncovered that N3.4 billion was misspent by the emirate under Sanusi. The amount was said to have been misappropriated between 2014 and 2017.
But O. A. Egwuatu, the judge, on Friday, said the commission did not give Sanusi an opportunity to be heard before releasing the report on him.

Egwuatu added that such an omission was against the principle of fair hearing.
The emir had filed an application asking the court to declare the findings contained in the commission’s report.
Sanusi has been at loggerheads with Abdullahi Ganduje, governor of Kano state, who had made moves to dethrone him.

The governor had created additional four emirates in an attempt to reduce the powers of Sanusi.
The duo fell out in the buildup to the 2019 elections. There are reports that the monarch worked against his reelection bid.
