A magistrate court in Makurdi, the Benue capital, on Tuesday, remanded 30-year-old Comfort Yughemba for allegedly resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer.
Christy Ikpe, the presiding magistrate, who did not take the suspect’s plea for want of jurisdiction, adjourned the case till June 19 for further mention.
Inedu Friday, the police prosecutor, said the suspect is also charged with robbery, raising a false alarm, and inciting breach of public peace.
The prosecutor said the case was reported on May 5 by Akor Success, an officer, at ‘B’ division police station, High Level, Makurdi.

Friday said Tyokaan Maureen, a resident of Apir Junction, Federal Medical Centre, Makurdi, reported Yughemba, who lived behind Towering Tots Primary School, to the police.
The prosecutor said the suspect resisted arrest and snatched the Oppo A17 cell phone, valued at N150,000, from the police officer who was called to apprehend her.
The prosecutor added that Yughemba raised a false alarm, accusing the officer of being a kidnapper, and called on residents to apprehend him, after which she fled with the phone to an unknown destination.

Friday said the alleged offences contravene sections 171, 170, 95, and 146 of the penal code.
The prosecutor prayed the court to adjourn the matter for the mention, noting that the investigation is ongoing.
