Court remands lawyer for ‘murder, disrupting proceedings’ in Ebonyi

Sunday Ununu, a lawyer, has been remanded to police custody over alleged murder and disruption of court’s proceedings in Ebonyi state.

NAN reports that Ununu appeared before the court on a two-count charge of unlawful possession of firearm and murder, preferred against him by the police on Friday.

The lawyer reportedly started shouting when he was docked and walked out of the court room without following the proper procedure.

During proceedings, Eze Ndubuaku, a police officer, said the lawyer caused the death of one Nnamdi Nwite-Ugo at Agbaja-Unuhu in Abakaliki LGA.

Ndubuaku said Nwite-Ugo died as a result of a shooting.

The police officer said the alleged act contravenes aection 319 (1) of the Criminal Code Cap 33, Vol. 1 Laws of Ebonyi 2009.

“The offence also contravened Section 11 of Ebonyi State Internal Security Enforcement and Other Related Matters Law, 2009,” he said.

Thereafter, Ojemba Isu-Oko, the magistrate handling the case, ordered that the defendant be remanded at a correctional centre.
