Court remands man for ‘attempted rape of 13-year-old girl’ in Kano

A magistrate court sitting in Kano, has remanded Garzali Murtala, a 20-year-old man, for allegedly attempting to rape a 13-year-old girl.

The suspect was said to have taken the victim to a bush in Rimingado LGA of Kano.

During the court proceedings on Tuesday, the defendant’s plea was not taken by the magistrate.

Addressing the court, Ibrahim Arif-Garba, the prosecutor, said the defendant committed the offence on September 21 around 9 am inside a bush along Sulbawa village in Rimingado.

Arif-Garba added that the offence breached the provisions of section 95 of the Penal Code.

Farouk Ibrahim-Umar, the magistrate, ordered the police to return the case file to the state director of public prosecutions for legal advice.

The magistrate adjourned the case to November 20 for further hearing.
