Court remands man for ‘raping’ 17-year-old girl in Osun

A magistrate court sitting in Ile-Ife, Osun state, has remanded one Oladipupo Babatunde for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl.

Thirty-year-old Babatunde was said to have committed the alleged offence on June 1, at about 2 pm at Awosun Estate, Ile-Ife.

The defendant was charged to court on a three-count charge of unlawful sexual intercourse, indecent assault, and taking unlawful advantage.

However, he pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Sunday Osanyintuyi, the prosecutor, told the court that the defendant allegedly raped the victim, who is his colleague.

Osanyintuyi said the offence contravened sections 2(2) of the against persons (prohibition), laws of Osun, 2021, section 32 of the child’s rights laws of Osun, 2007, and 360 of Osun criminal code, 2002.

Kikelomo Adebayo, the magistrate, asked the prosecutor to send a copy of the case file to the office of the director of public prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.

Adebayo ordered the remand of the defendant in Ile-Ife Nigerian Correctional Custody pending the legal advice.

The case was adjourned until September 5 for mention.
