Court remands teacher for ‘defiling’ seven-year-old pupil in Adamawa

A Jimeta chief magistrates court in Yola, Adamawa state, has remanded Adamu Ayuba, a teacher, over the alleged defilement of a seven-year-old pupil.

Ayuba was arraigned on the charge of defilement, which contravenes section 211 of the penal code law of Adamawa state.

During the trial, Ezra Bulus, the prosecution counsel, told the court that the case was reported at the police station by Fatima Isah, the pupil’s mother, at about 6pm on May 2.

Bulus said the victim is a pupil of Anur Modern Academy in Yola, Adamawa state capital.

He said the victim’s mother explained that the girl complained of severe pains in her private part when she returned from school on April 29.

He said the alleged offence is criminal and requires legal advice.

Musa Adamu, the chief magistrate, adjourned the case to enable the police to conclude an investigation into the matter.

“This case has been adjourned until May 29 to enable the police to finish their investigation and to forward the case file to the department of public prosecution (DPP) for legal advice,” NAN quoted Adamu as saying.

The 37-year-old teacher was said to have pleaded not guilty to the charge.
