A family court in Ibadan, Oyo state capital, has ordered the remand of Joshua Olayiwola, a teenager, in the Abolongo correctional facility for allegedly defiling an eight-year-old girl.

S. A. Adesina, the presiding judge, who declined to take Olayiwola’s plea for lacking “jurisdiction”, ordered the police to return the case file to the state’s director of public prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.

Gbemisola Adedeji, the prosecution counsel, told the court that the suspect allegedly defiled the minor on April 15 in the Ojo Ekun area of Ibadan.

She added that the offence contravened the provisions of section 34 of the Oyo State Child Rights Law 2006.

The judge adjourned the case until June 13 for further hearing.
