Super Falconets player, Courtney Dike, has turned down the N1.2m ($7,000) bonus given to Nigeria’s silver medal-winning team at the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women World Cup in Canada.
Courtney, who is the younger sister of Super Eagles player Bright Dike, scored two goals in the tournament to help Nigeria to second place.
Head of competition, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Dr. Sanusi Mohammed said that the federation was amazed at her refusal.
“Courtney Dike is based in America. When she was paid the outstanding 10 days’ worth of allowances in the tune of $7,000, she turned it down,” he told www.footballlive.ng.

“When we called her mother to confirm the delivery of the allowances, she declined it and insisted the opportunity to serve Nigeria was all the reward the family needed. Besides she said she was too young to earn that much.”
Also, Dilichukwu Onyedinma, the head of Nigeria Women League board, commended the behaviour of Dike and urged other players to emulate her.
“It’s an exemplary behaviour from a female footballer. With such discipline from Courtney Dike and the backing of her parents, this should be applauded and [we should] perhaps celebrate her,” she said.

“She’s a star and a patriotic Nigerian who did not put money above service. The minister is aware and we’ll push this patriotic act before the Football Federation so it can inspire many.”
