292 Nigerians have been evacuated from Saudi Arabia, says Onyeama

Two hundred and ninety-two Nigerians evacuated from Saudi Arabia have arrived in the federal capital territory (FCT).

In a tweet on Wednesday, Geoffrey Onyeama, minister of foreign affairs, said the evacuees arrived in the nation’s capital on Tuesday.

Onyeama said the Saudi Arabia government facilitated their transportation to Abuja, and that a large number of the evacuees are nursing mothers and children.

According to him, the evacuees have already begun their 14-day quarantine in some undisclosed hotels.

“We received 292 evacuees stranded in Saudi Arabia yesterday. The Saudi Government transported them to Abuja,” the minister tweeted.

“A large number are nursing mothers and children and they are all comfortably settled in hotels under the mandatory 14 days quarantine.”

The federal government has been making efforts to evacuate Nigerians who are stranded abroad as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

About two weeks ago, 300 UK returnees arrived at the airport in Lagos on a British Airways flight.

There is also a plan to evacuate 200 Nigerians from Canada.
