COVID-19: Infections decline as Nigeria logs 272 cases in nine states

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) says one person died of COVID-19 complications on Saturday, while 272 new infections were recorded across nine states.

The figure represents a decline from the 317 cases NCDC logged on Friday, which was an 18-week high.

The new data is contained in the NCDC update for July 24, 2021.

With the new deaths recorded on Saturday, a total of 2,132 persons have now died of coronavirus across Nigeria.

Lagos state, the epicentre of the pandemic in the country, again recorded the highest number of new infections with 182 confirmed cases.

Trailing Lagos is Rivers with 34 positive samples and Ondo with 24 cases.

Other states that recorded fresh COVID-19 infections include Oyo (10), Abia (7), Ogun (7), Ekiti (5), Delta (2), and Plateau (1).

According to NCDC, eight persons were discharged on Saturday after recovering from the infectious disease.

Out of a total of 170,895 positive infections confirmed across the country, 164,788 patients have been discharged.
