COVID-19: NCDC confirms 226 infections in 15 states, six fatalities

Nigeria’s daily count of positive COVID-19 cases decreased by 11.1 percent on Thursday. 

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) says 226 infections were recorded on Thursday while 251 cases were reported on Wednesday.

The agency said the latest infections were confirmed in 14 states and the federal capital territory (FCT).

The nation’s capital recorded the highest single-day cases in the past few days. It also topped the COVID-19 infection chat on Thursday with 73 cases.

Other states that recorded fresh cases are Plateau (34), Lagos (25), Gombe (22), Abia (16), Osun (13), Kano (7), Rivers (7), Ekiti (6) Kaduna (6), Oyo (6), Delta (5), Edo (3), Jigawa (2), and Nasarawa (1).

However, despite confirming 226 cases, the NCDC said 203 people recovered from the infection.

It also said six persons died of COVID complications, raising the country’s fatality figure to 2,767.

A total of 208,603 cases have now been confirmed since February 27 when Nigeria recorded its index case, out of which 196,326 patients have recovered, while 9,537 are active infections.

As a part of the effort to speed up the country’s vaccination campaign, the federal government has made the COVID vaccine mandatory for civil servants effective December 1.
