Nigeria’s daily count of coronavirus infections stayed above the 1,000 mark on Saturday.
The new cases, which were confirmed by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), were recorded in nine states and the federal capital territory in the country’s COVID-19 update for August 21, 2021.
With the new cases, the country’s total number of confirmed infections now stands at 186,635.
Lagos, the epicentre of the COVID-19 pandemic in Nigeria, topped the infection chart with 776 positive samples, followed by Rivers with 143 and Ekiti with 49.

Other states include Kwara (33), Ogun (21), Benue (18), Oyo (13), FCT (5), Osun (4) and Yobe (2).
NCDC said 196 persons were discharged on Saturday after recovering from the infectious disease.
With the new figure, a total of 168,320 patients have so far recovered from COVID-19 in Nigeria.

However, 13 persons were confirmed to have died of COVID-19 complications on Saturday, bringing the current fatality toll to 2,260.
A breakdown showed that Lagos continues to be a COVID-19 danger zone, with a record of 11,442 admitted patients — and that’s 71 percent of 16,055 active cases.
